Marines at the Beach

I know these Marines from the Gulfport Naval Construction Battalion Center are training. But it looked like it was play also. I mean, what could be more fun than storming into and out of the water in these amphibious beauties. I was told they are Amtracs and the idea is to "shove" as many troops into the back of them. Though I asked 4 or 5 of the Marines, none would let me drive or ride. Hey, it never hurts to ask!

Heading off into the Gulf of Mexico from the beach in Gulfport.

They were fast! I would estimate they were going 25-30 knots. I could be mistaken. But they did cover a lot of ground in a very short time.

The Marines are landing! Gulfport is being invaded! Nah, after a hard morning of "work", they are going back to the Seabee base.

It was a lot of fun watching them. I had just made my first trip to Pass Christian and saw them from Hwy 90 when I made it back to Gulfport. I pulled into the parking bay and had an enjoyable couple of hours just watching them and taking pictures. Though I am still disappointed that I didn't get to drive one.
