More good news from the protectors of womens rights
A Indian Muslim woman who was raped by her father-in-law must now marry him. Imrana's 10 year marriage to Noor Mohammed will be anulled and after a period of 7 months to make her "pure again", will be forced to marry the man who raped her. This insanity was decided upon by community leaders of the village in which she lives and was backed up by Muslim clerics. Reuters
See how justly a woman's rights are upheld by Muslim clerics!!! Who in their right mind would force a woman to divorce her husband and then marry her rapist? Islam's Sharia law, which is based on the Quran and Hadith and is touted as being the protector of women's rights, that's who.
Below are some wonderful verses that show a woman's place under Islam:
From Islam Review Online
Men are superior to women (surah 2:228).
Women have half the rights of men: in court witness (surah 2:282) and in inheritance
(surah 4:11).
A man may punish his wife by beating her (surah 4:34).
A man may marry up to four wives at the same time (surah 4:3).
A wife is a sex object for her husband (surah 2:223).
One need go no further than surah 2:223 to see how women are regarded in Islam.

"Who in their right mind would force a woman to divorce her husband and then marry her rapist?"
Well according to Sharia she provoked the poor, weak sinner.
The only other alternative would be to stone her.
See Allah is All mercifull, All knowing.
Yes, yes I see His mercy.
There are some things that are just beyond the pale. Even I was too speechless when I saw this news to try and comment on it.
"The shari'ah does not prescribe them (not all of them, at least), but they are virtually absent from all cultures except for Islamic ones."
True - because the whole perception of Islamic Justice makes the good Muslims draw the only logical conclusions.
All of the quotes were taken from Islam: the Facade and the Facts
By Abdullah Al Araby at Islam Review. They are annotated per the article. It gives an overview of how women are regarded in Islam.
There is an even more harsh article at Faith Freedom that interprets the following: "Such wives as you enjoy thereby, give them their wages apportionate. Q. 4:24)" , to mean a woman becomes the husbands slave when she accepts the mahr(dowry).

I will be honest. I have not studied Sharia as of yet. I made the presumption that since Muslim clerics okayed this, it must be based on Sharia, in much the same way that stoning is proscribed under Iranian Sharia.
The point I am trying to make is that many Muslims claim that Islam was the first religion to grant women property rights, but from what I have seen, women become the property.
