Uniquely Southern
Next Saturday, the 10th Annual Redneck Games are to be held in Dublin Georgia. The games were first started as a spoof of the Olympics which were held in Atlanta in 1996.
Events include:
1. Mud-pit belly flop - contestants are judged on their flabby form and splattering effect
2. Armpit serenade - For children, last year's 12 year old winner's rendition of Dixie was recognizable
3. Hubcap hurling - similar to discus throwing only with junk yard parts
4. Redneck horseshoes - played with toilet seats
5. Bobbing for pigs feet
The games have grown from 500 spectators to over 15,000 last year.
Frank L. Fraser, publisher of Redneck World magazine, sees the games as another example alongside the popularity of country music, NASCAR and the comedy television show "Blue Collar TV" of folks embracing their inner good-ole-boy without the baggage of racist stereotypes.
Just a bunch of good ole boys having some down home fun. The proceeds from the $5.00 admission go to the East Dublin Lions Club.
