Taking a Cue From Seinfeld

In this post, I'm taking a cue from Seinfeld. It's about nothing. Thanks to G4 tv station, I've been watching reruns of the best Star Trek series ever, The Next Generation. Last night, the rerun had one of my favorite characters on, Roxana Troi. Every time I begin to think my Mom is bad, I just have to picture Deanna Troi and her mom. It puts things in proper perspective.

Another favorite character was on a rerun tonight, Q. That evil, costume loving, god-like being who delights in tormenting the crew of the Enterprise. He appears to have an abnormal dislike of Captain Picard.

Which I don't understand. Picard is the best captain of the Enterprise ever. He never willingly puts the crew in danger. He shows much more maturity than Captain Kirk ever did.

It's fun to compare the differences of the orignal series and see how the concept had evolved. I stopped watching Star Trek when they came out with Deep Space 9. It's good to see the reruns of The Next Generation.

Hmmm. DS9 was easily the best of the series, although Next Gen is a close second.

Didja know that Troi's Mum was Gene Roddenburys wife? She was also the first officer (Spocks job) in the very first episode?

Q rocks! I love it in DS9 when Capt Sisco beats the shit out of him, and Q looks up and says "Picard never hit me!"

It was so stupid and sad that they went with that silly Enterprise concept. Bakula is bloody awful as captain, much like he is awful in everything I have seen him in so far.

Hey...I just remembered, in DS9 Troi's mum marries Odo the shape shifter! Without putting too heavy a point on it, that could lead to some really kinky stuff....

I can see why you don't like Kirk...coz he sucked.

patrick,

Sisco beat up poor Q? In the few episodes I watched of DS9, I liked Sisco. Now I like him even more.

Odo and Roxana married? That would lead to some interesting story lines.

The problem I had with DS9 was the whole Cardassian thing and too many Frengis.

Yeah I think it's flaw was it tried to go off in way too many directions, which would have lost the causal watcher.

I heard it had the largest ensamble of characters ever for a TV show...naturally I could be wrong, I just seem to remember hearing that somewhere.

They only really married so she would not have to marry some other git. She was just an occasional star like she was in Next Gen so there was no real storyline.

I think Sisko was a great captain...although to be honest I sorta had a thing for Major Kira ;)

I just could not relate to DS9. You expect a Star Trek series to be just that, adventures in exploring new worlds.

This isn't about nothing! It's about Star Trek. Very cool. I wasn't a huge watcher of any of (despite the huge number of soap opera actors on them, like the guy who played Q) 'em but the bf was. He hated Enterprise too. DS9 is his favorite too, Patrick. Did you know that Kira was a replacement? They actually made the show to be centered around Ensign Ro (Michelle Forbes, another ex-soaper), but Michelle didn't want to be typecast. Some would kill to be typecast as a trekkie...you're set for life with fan appearances.

esther,

Tsk, tsk, The Next Generation is the best. I don't care if I'm outnumbered!;)

Seawitch,
After watching one of the Star Trek movies in which they try to shift a whale into space I decided I didn't want to be part of it anymore.
Later I learnt there were human rights lobbying groups protesting against unjust stereotyping of Clingons.
Apparently the producers decided to include the baddies as goodies from then on.

Felis...
That movie you refer to was by far the worst, dumbest most idiotic Star Trek movie ever conceived.
I would recommend you try another one if you have a couple of hours with nothing to do one day.

Esther....Kira a replacement???? What are you saying???????????
