Wheels
Since my son has started working and his birthday is a little less than a month away, his Dad got him this:
It's a 1990 Ford Tempo, has over a 100,000 miles but is in good shape. Son's first thought, "I'm going to have a CD player installed." He will be responsible for the insurance, gas, and any repairs.

Tell him I have some suggestions on what to do now that he has wheels. Um, on second thought, don't let him even talk to me. LOL
mark,
No way are you talking to him about cars!! :)
Oh, he will be sooo pleased I am sure.
I also shall withhold my sound advice on what can be done with a motor vehicle.
felis,
Thank you!! :)
The car is a great reward for your son's hard work. He's going to have a blast with it!
I'm so happy for him! I agree with gunnnutt -- it is a great reward. So he's installing a CD player? What, no MP3 player? ;)
GN and esther,
He's happy about it!! And I sure that whatever CD player he chooses will have a MP3 player as well. He certainly spends a lot of time downloading music from iTunes.
Please tell your son from me (I know he doesn't know me at all so just call me a former Tempo owner. Two back to back, actually, and just traded Ol' Blue, a '92, in two months ago.) that it's a darned good car. Reliable and easy on the gas. The trunk, ah, that nice big trunk holds tons of groceries when he drives you to the store.
Which he'll probably be willing to do for a couple of weeks 'cause it gives him another excuse for getting behind the wheel.
Trust me. Take advantage of it while you can because later . . .
Mom: You're going right by the store and you tell me you can't stop and pick up a gallon of milk on the way home?!!!
Kid: Muh-ther! I'm (fill in the blank).
Also based on my own experience, Christmas shopping for him will be a cinch this year:
Little all-purpose tool kit, first-aid kit, emergency blinker-thingies in case he has to stop, jumper cables, cans of Fix-a-Flat, fancy car shampoo and waxes, buffing cloths . . .
doyle,
Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to get him to go to the grocery before the two weeks are up!
