Some of Mississippi's state legislators are gearing up to propose legislation that would bar eminent domain for private development. State Representative Ed Blackmon of Canton and State Representative Jamie Franks of Mooreville are proposing legislation that would bar cities from taking private land through eminent domain for private developments such as hotels or convention centers. It would keep intact eminent domain for publice use such as roads, parks, and other PUBLIC uses. In other words, legislators in my state are reverting to what the US Constitution originally meant. I will still continue to gather signatures for my petition.
