Arrest Made In NJ - Man Connected to Lashkar-e-Taiba(7/7 Bomber Had Ties With Same Group)

Mahmud Faruq Brent of Gwynn Oak was arrested in Newark NJ. He is accused of supporting the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba between 2001 through May 2005 by attending a terrorist training camp the group ran in Pakistan. It is also alleged that Brent received martial arts training from Tarik Shah, who is under indictment in the southern district of New York on similar charges.

One of the terrorists in the July 7 London also attended "schools" run by the group. Shehzad Tanweer whose bomb killed six people on a Circle Line train to Aldgate attended one of the many madrassas, or religious schools, run by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which is based in Lahore. The group's founder, Hafiz Saeed , has publicly stated that he believes suicide bombing to be the "best form of jihad [holy war]".

Tarik Shah who allegedly gave martial arts training to Brent is not a pleasant man.

A Bronx man who wanted to set up an al Qaeda training camp in the United States bragged that he could smile at someone one minute and slit the person's throat the next, court papers reveal. Tarik Ibn Osman Shah, 42, made the chilling boast in a meeting with an undercover FBI agent April 1, 2004, near Orlando, Fla., according to a criminal complaint unsealed yesterday.

The complaint against Brent alleges that Shah told authorities after his arrest that he had trained Brent in martial arts and that Brent was committed to jihad. The complaint says Shah agreed to arrange a meeting with Brent at a hotel near Columbia. The FBI monitored that meeting using video and audio surveillance, the complaint says.

According to the complaint, Brent said during the meeting that he had traveled to Pakistan and trained with mujaheddin. Brent called the decision to go to the camps "one of the better decisions in my life" and urged Shah to seek similar training, the complaint says.
